Books: Pitman New Era Shorthand – Anniversary Edition – O’Dea
This is one of the more recent Pitman books around, and you can still find new copies for sale on some sites. It was first published in 1988, and my edition (shown right) came out in 1992. It has a modern, clean layout, plenty of white space, and notes printed in light green boxes. No pictures of modern secretaries wearing mini skirts and blue eye shadow.
On the downside, it was designed to be used in a classroom, not at home. That means you get exercises, but not the answers. For that you’ll need the not-so-easy-to-find Pitman New Era Shorthand Key.
